Gets Approval
STAYTON Construction Pro
duction administration office has
approved the application for re
modeling the Bon Ton cafe. The
Joseph Spaniolo and George Miel
ke, owners, received word Tues
day, The interior will be re
arranged at the cost of approxi
mately $5000.
Plans include installation of a
heating system, air conditioning,
construction of an open kitchen, a
new dining room, installation of a
horseshoe counter, placing of
fountain near the front and re
moval of the old bank vault. (The
Farmer's State bank occupied the
Bon Ton corner 25 years ago.)
Material is now on hand and
work will start at once.

reunion was held at the Stayton
trity park last week. Luncheon
was served at noon. Because of
the inclement weather, the group

Bean Festival
STAYTON4 Plans for the 1946
Santiam Beaa festival are rapidly
shaping into what promises to be
the most successful festival ever
held, first after four wartime ob
servation. Highlights of the five
day event include coronation cer
emonies in which Gov, Earl Snell
and the Salem Cherrians will par
ticipate, the grand parade, the
children's pet parade and the big
bean can from which several thou
sand will be served Santiam
beans.
The Queen's ball will be held
Saturday night July 27 at the
tennis court when the princess
with the most votes will be named
queen. The seven contestants are
Mary Ely, Naomi Morgan, Stay
ton; Joy Kiersey. West Stayton;
Marilyn Schrunk, Scio; Betty Kin
zer, Lyons; Doris McCoy, Marion;
and Mavis Mundt, Mill City.
The coronation ceremonies will
formerly open the bean festival
Tuesday night, July 30 at the fes
tival center on Third street at
8 p.m. Governor Snell will crown
the queen and County Judge
Grant Murphy will be master of
ceremonies. The Cherrians will act
as a guard of honor for the royal
party. A procession will wend its
way to the festival center starting
from Third and Water streets.
The pet parade will be Friday
afternoon's feature. Climaxing the
week's events will be the grand
Four Corners Fire
Department to Meet
Tuesday in Local Hall
FOUR CORNERS. July 21
Members of the local volunteer
fire department will meet at 7:30
Tuesday night in the community
hall to discuss taking in new mem
bers of the department which now
nas 18 signed up. The regulations
provide for a limit of 25 members
and it is hoped to have this num
ber next week with a waiting list
established, Vic L. Withrow chief !
