Operator of a warehousing and farming business in Salem, and a past president of the Rotary club of Salem, was today unanimously elected district governor of Ro tary ' International at Rotary'i 37th annual convention which is being held here this week. He will succeed George W. Peavy of Cor vallis. j Elected by delegates represent ing Rotary's 5800 clubs and 271, 000 members In 72 .countries, Mr. Stewart will assume his duties as district governor on July 1. As an officer of Rotary International he will visit the 33 clubs which com prise the 102nd district, one of three Rotary districts in Oregon and Washington. He wiffl assist the officers of these clubs' pertaining to Rotary service activities and administration. This district carried Stewart's unanimous nomination to the convention. The projected Yangtze river dam in China will irrigate 10.000, 000 acres and provide triple the power of Boulder, Grand Coulee and Shasta dams combined. State Road Board Asked to Plan New Wheatland Ferry The county court will ask the state highway commission to pre pare plans and specifications for a new Wheatland ferry. County Judge Grant Murphy said Thurs day. The court conferred Wed nesday in McMirinville with the Yamhill county court who will bear half the expense. Marion county operates the ferry by agreement and plans to build the new ferry itself If bids are not reasonable. Murphy stat ed.
