Vern Reynolds, a former Lin
coln high school of Portland ath
lete and last year with San Diego
and Hollywood in the Pacific
Coast league, has been signed by
the Portland Beavers and sent to
the Salem Senators, manager Fris
co Edwards announced last night.
Reynolds, a good left-handed hit
ler who can play anywhere in the
infield, will join the club' imme
diately and is expected to bolster
the . inner defenses considerably.
WhiTe names cannot be mentioned
yet, Reynolds in't the only rein
forcement coming to the Senators.
Manager Edwards indicated. In
fact, the management of the Port
land Beavers intends to keep
pouring in material until the right
combination for a real pennant
contender is found. Edwards stat
ed; all of which indicates some
new faces but soon in the locals'
lineup.

Vernon, Washington first base
man, smashed out six hits in
nine times at bat against the
White Sox ysterday to boost his
season percentage to .411. the
splurge giving Vernon the Ameri
can league batting leadership.
Vernon's big bat pounded out
two doubles, two homers, a triple
and a single yesterday to extend
a consecutive hitting streak to 17
games during which he has made
31 hits in 78 attempts.
In second place is Dario Lo
digiani of Chicago, who has a
mark of .386, although he has not
played for a week because of in
juries. Ted Williams of Boston,
with .373 and his teammate,
Johnny Pesky, with .371 are next.
Vernon Stevens of the St. Louis

It was the only league game
played tonight and knocked the
Spokes out of a tie with Yakima
for second place. All others series
