painful brume and abrasions
when thrown from a car near
Stayton Saturday nifht. The car
door iwun open as she leaned
against it while rounding a sharp
curve. The car was driven by
Jack Saddler.
Bonnie McCoy, 13. and Joe Sto
dola, 12, narrowly escaped drown
ing Saturday while fishing from
floating logs in the Villi City Man
ufacturing Co. mill pond. A log
on which they .were standing roll
ed and they fell into deep water.
They mans fed to keep afloat un
til nearby fishermen. Kloyd dohn
aon and a companion, received
them.
Curiosity paid off in the loss of
a thumb and forefinger Tuesday
when Jimmy Anderson, 13, failed
to recognize a dynamite cap which
he found near the mill pond. In
trying to determine what the inno
cent looking object was, he struck
It, and caused the explosion which
mutilated his left hand and caus
ed powder burns on both hands,

oldest denominational church sit
uated between Portland and Eu
gene, that at Zena, was the scene
f suiuise Easter services and
Easter breakfast. The program in
cluded a vocal solo by Miss Tern
Christman. poem by the Rev. R.
J. Becker, scripture reading and
prayer by the Rev. Henry Honge,
raster meditation by Misses Fern
Christman and Carol Brown, and
the Easter message by the Rev.
Becker.

Swede Norma Jean Ken
nedy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clinton Kennedy, who was ser
iously injured in an automobile
accident Friday night, was re
ported not so well Tuesday but
resting some better on Wednes
day morning following blood
transfusions. Friends are volun
teering blood. Norma is a senior
at Salem high school.
Fear Corner Gerald Bui
lock of Rickey school came in
second in the 411 contest for the
healthiest boy in the county. Ger
ald said he was a little over
weight but plans to quit eating
before the contest next year.

AUMSVILLE, April $MSpe-cial)-The
funeral of Mrs. "Julia
Steinkarap. who died at her horn,
R. 1. Aumsville. April 17, was
held at St. Boniface church. Sub
limity, April 23. with burial be
side her husband in St. Boniface
cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Scher
bring officiated. She wa born in
"Leithlinger, Germany, February
20, 1S38, came to America in 1881.
Xa 1SS4 she married William Stein
kamp near St. Louis. Mo., later
moving to Arkansas, settling on a
farm near Little Rock. In October,
1894. with her husband and two
ana. she moved to Oregon, settling
on a farm 2 miles east of Aums
ville. where she had lived for over
SI years. She was the mother of
six children. Three sons, and her
husband preceded her in death.

Steinkamp of B rot As, and eleven
Crandchildren survive.
Silver-ton Is Opposed
To Federal Control of
Housing Program Plan
SILVERTON, April 25 - (Spec
ial) Silver ton doesn't want the
house building here controlled by
a bureau In Washington, members
of the chamber of commerce, de
cided Tuesday night and 'voted ;
to wire. Oregon congressmen en
dorsing a "hands off" program in
the building field.
Included in the proposal adopted
was the suggestion that members
of the Chamber of commerce also
write congressmen to this effect.

Funeral services will be held in
Portland at 1 o'clock today, and .
Interment will be at Belcrest in

graveside services will be at 4 p.m.
