Erickson, head of the Oregon , department of health, told Salem Rotarians Wednesday. He outlined health problems which affect the tourist popula tion during the season in which so many Oregon people are in terested. Twenty two cents of every tourist dollar goes to the restaur ant. Dr. Erickson said in com menting upon the need of health education for food handlers. Marion county has one of the best health departments in Ore gon, the state leader said in pay ing tribute to Dr. W. J. Stone, Marion county head. Headlines may affect the tour ist business. Dr. Erickson said, reporting upon reaction on the ea-st coast, to the black smallpox epidemic on the west coast. Death Claims State Printer Samuel Budd Welch, native of Salem and printer in the state printer'9 office for 34 years, died Wednesday in a Portland hospital after a brief illness. He was 34. Welch had been a longtime member of the Salem Elks lodge and was a veteran of World war I. He had been a resident of 771 N. Commercial st. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Laura T. Ramsden, Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Oda Ann Wetherbee, Sacramento, : Calif., and Mrs. Charles B. Parker. Portland; a nephew, Robert B. Parker, Salem, and a niece, Mrs. Jack Zuber, Portland. VFW Auxiliary Elects Officers Vesta Cutler, state civil service commission employe, was elected president of the newly-formed auxiliary of the Meadowlark Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wed nesday night in the Sa!em VFW hall. Deferred oats deliveries slumped on selling which came primarily from professional sources, with commission houses doing most of the buying. To be eligible for the bonus the corn must grade No. 3 or better, or No. 4 on test weight only. Pioneer Oregon Businessman Dies An Oregon pioneer business man. Oscar B. Ballou, president of the firm of Ballou & Wright died at his home in( Portland, April 23, at the age of'ninty-two years and seven months. Ballou founded the form in 896, and in 1907 it became an Oregon corpor ation and was engaged in bicycle wholesaling gradually extending into motorcycle selling and later into automotive merchandising. Since Mr. Ballou did most of the early selling for the company, he is remembered by such old timers as Arthur H. Moore and Paul II.
