Stock Market
Soars to New
15-year Marks
NEW YORK, April 20 -(A)
Stocks broke through the Febr
uary biill market peak into a 15
year hqth in today's market, aid
ed by upturns in utility and cop
per mining shares.
The new level was attained
despite softness of some rails and
a number of pivotal industrials
which imparted a mixed appear
ance to the list. Most losses-were
held to fractions, however, and
gains ranging to . more than a
point were in the majority at
the close.
Transfers of 770,000 shares
compared; wjt)r 620,000 a week
ago. The week's volurhe of 6.429,
940 shares was more than 1,000.
000 below that of the preceding
week.
Coppers', which have been re
garded by some analysts as lag
ging behind the market, resumed
the upturn that started late
Thursday on expectation of ceil
ing pried increases. North Amer
ican's plan for dispersal of its
large holdings, and some favor
able earnings reports, bolstered
the utilities.
Climbinjg .1 of a point, the As
sociated Pre-s 60-stock composite
reached 80.5 for its highest level
since March 27. 1931. The utility
average also made a new 15-
year high at 54.7. The over-all
average was ahead 1.2 points for
the week.

Traders said they felt the gov

However, there was a disposition
