Tonight's opening may be the last for the history-heavy WU
pavilion. The tournament, now back to a 16team field after wartime
curtailment to eight, has far outgrown the limited expanses of the
university's gymnasium. A strong move is currently under way to
shift the 1947 classic to the state fairgrounds horse show pavilion,
a maneuverable auditorium which will be able to seat, comfortably,
over 7000 basketball fans. Only slightly more than 2000 will be
fortunate enough to view any one session of the present tournament.

wire. The in-and-outedness of the
Vikings during the winter doesn't
make for favoritism in the classic,
however. Same goes for Astoria's
Fishermen. Their coach, Wally
Palm berg is another laden with
