Joeckel, PhM lcr US NR. whoM wife, Evelyn Joeck el, lives in SaJem, now wears the Silver , Star medal awarded him for heroism while attached to a marine artillery battalion, the 13th . naval district announced Tuesday. The presentation was made by Cspt. Taul Wilson, commanding ef fleer, UU.,' naval hospital, Cor vsllls. Joeckel has previously been warded two presidential citations and has participated in actions at Tarawa, Salpan and Tinian. The citation reads as- follows: "For heroism while attached to a marine artillery battalion in ac tion against enemy forces on Sal pin, Marianas Islands, on 7 July, '1944. During an enemy attack in force, Pharmacist's Mate First Class Joeckel brought an ambu lance from the rear echelon and volunteered to aid in the evacua tion of the wounded. Throughout the entire 12 hours of the battle he repeatedly, with complete de votion to duty, - crossed and r erossed terrain which was being swept by intense machine gun, rifle and mortar fire.
