" The house on the old Fletcher
place, iouthweit of here, was de
stroyed by fire Friday night 1 It
was an old frame structure In
which the Gilbert Chartraw fam
ily had recently been living. An
overheated stove caused the fire
which completely destroyed the
House. .

Work club met with Mrs. Roy
Hart on East Turner road Wed
nesday. The time was spent sew
ing and in conversation. R.
freshmen ts were served by . the
hostess at a late hour. It was de
cided to have the annual Christ
mas party with exchange of gifts
on December 22 at the home of
Mrs. Frank Smith with her daught-
ter, Mrs.. Walter Lukins, sharing
hostess honors. Gifts will be eiv-
en by; the members "silent sister."
Earlier in the year names t were
chosen secretly, and during the
year, 1 inese members were re
membered with a card or gift on
special occasions. One of the
members received a corsage, from
her "silent sister" the first one she
had ever received, i i "

Mrs. Elgin Rainville
FALLS CITY Funeral services
were held at Falls City Tuesday
for Mrs. Elgin Rainville, 50, who
died of injuries suffered in an
automobile accident near Canyon-
vuie Sunday, November 28. The
Rev. A. L. Beazley officiated.'
Nettie Maud Hunter was born
May 13, 1895, near Lostine the
second child of a family of six, she
was married Aug. 1, 1915, to R. Vi
Dewitt, who died in 1918. Their
two sons were killed in action;!
Sgt. R. V. Dewitt in the Philip
pines and Charles F. Dewitt when
his ship was sunk on the Atlantic
coast
I In 1939 she was married to FJ
jscr Rainville who survives; also
her mother and stenfather. Mr.
and Mrs. H. B. Horton, of Falls
City, two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Teal
of Falls City, Mrs. Gladys Wooden
of Hillsboro, and ! two brothers,
J. S. Hunter of Falls City, and
Chester Hunter of Greenville,
Calif. Interment was fa the I OOF
cemetery here.
