Minutes showed that the last meet

Plan Sale
The group voted to hold an an
nual bred gilt sale before the mid
dle of February, the sale to be
held at the state fair grounds 'and
to be open to members of the as
sociation only. Appointed to serve
as me sales' committee for 1946
were Charles Evans, Salem, chair
man; Warren Kreech, Salem; H. D.
Barnes, Silverton, and Ben Newell,
assistant county agent. Oliver,
Ridder and a member of the state
veterinarian department will serve
as the sifting committee. The Mar
ion County Livestock association
will be asked to assist in the spon
sorship of the 1948 sale Tie as
sociation also voted to ask the
state fair board to have the swine
building vacated and put in order
as soon as possible. Approximate
ly 40 gilts will be consigned for
the sale, members indicated.
Speaker
Harry Lindgren, Oregon Str e
college, spoke briefly on the "cut-
look of the swine industry in Or
egon," pointing out that this out
look is bright on basis of an in
crease of from 75,000 to 100,000 in
the state. Unless such an increase
is made, the future will be dark in
Oregon, Lindgren believed.
"We do not have enough hogs
now to uuuze tne farm waste.
There are now only 194,000 hogs
in the state and the waste could
carry about 275,000," Lindgren
said. He admitted, however,, that
it took about 100 pounds in pork
to equal 650 in grain if the raiser
was to break even. '
