Tunisia, invasion of Sicily, the
battle for Anzio and the push for

from the south Pacific, where he
has been the past 18 months, to

Heart for a hand wound he got
April 22 when a Japanese suicide
plane attempted to hit his ship,
the USS Gladiator, a minesweep
er. I He was then put aboard the
hospital ship.'USS Pmkney, which
was struck April 28 by a suidde
plane. " He sustained no injuries
from that'

run in four days is almost
a routine order for Melvin Myers
Ferguson, fireman, first class,
route 2, Dallas, Ore., and crewman
of the- cargo clipper USS Megrez.
His ship, an attack supply ship of
the fleet service force, has been
fining such demands since Novem
ber, 1943, when she began oper

OKINAWA It will be sometime
before Okinawa will recognize
itself after the face-lifting given
this battle scar of the Pacific by
Wanden G. Lindroff, machinist's
mate, third class, Amity, Ore and
his naval construction battalion
operating there. Two new hospi
tals rising from rice paddies and
jungle undergrowth are the latest
additions to the island by these
Seabees. The .battalion is ' also
credited with laying the first air
strips and landing fields here.
