Spode dishes have not suffered

the speaker. The coffee urn and
choice dishes ; were brought down
by the speaker against the advice
of the many other workers, she
: admitted, but her sense of hos
pitality has had a good effect on
the spirits of the men and women
workers near the end of a hard
day.

tended during the opening days,

survey to determine cause of the
unusually high rat of tooth de
cay) among Oregon residents will
begin here next fall.
The research by Oregon State
college technicians will attempt
to find out whether cause can be

state legislature will finance the
laboratory work.

Educated Grizzly
Bites the Hand ' ;
Tliat Trained Him
Circus-goers watched Emil
Pallenberg, jr., make! the highly
trained bear Fu "go back and do
it over" during the Thursday af
ternoon opening show of Russell
Bros, circus here without realiz
ing that the trainer's hand was
bleeding from a gash left by Fu's
I teeth.
Whether the pugnacious spirit
was engendered while the . hon-
neutral Russian bear rowed a
boat carrying the slogan "Oh to
Tokyo" or whether the meat
shortage caused the animal .to
bite the hand of the man who has
trained him since he was a cub,
circus folk could not say.
Anyhow, the bear, once-sched
uled to appear in this noons
Victory Center program, is rest
ing quietly in his cage until .time
for this afterrloon's performance.
