Ross home this week. Ross Is much
improved since his return from
the Portland hospital.

group of her music pupils in re
cital Friday afternoon, at her
home. The mothers of the chil
dren were guests. The children
presented Mrs. Millsap with
flowers. .
Mrs. Lulu Collins entertained
the Birthday Club Saturday after
noon. Euchre was played at three
, tables after luncheon "at 1 o'clock.

after spending the past week in
bed suffering from asthma and
complications.
Mrs. M. M. Gilmour is recover
ing from a bad fall while house
cleaning in her home. She received
bad bruises and a broken rib.

MONMOUTH Commencement
day at Monmouth was a field day
for Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wiest and
their four children, who were
present to see the youngest daugh
ter, Marion Esther, graduate from
Oregon College of Education June
1. All six family members are
now graduates of this institution.
A further distinction accrues to
the family because three of the
six Wiests have served as presi
dent of the Associated Students of
OCE. Three also are now in their
country's service.

land claim taken by Mrs. Wiest's
great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Helmick, in 1845. Helmick
State park; also a portion of the
family land claim, was given back
to the Itate of Oregon for a park
in 1921, by Mrs. Helmick, who
was then,- almost 100 'years "old,
They bad lived there 79 years.
She died at the age of 101. She
s4id the park had been a recrea-
al ground for Indians who
camped, there and gathered willow
for baskets long before the
elmicks took the land claim. It
the only state park on the west'
side highway.

convention was not recreational.
