a special meeting at the YWCA,

has been stationed at San Diego

She joined the WAVEs in March,
1944 but remained on inactive
duty until June, i when she was
sent to Hunter's college, New York,
for indoctrination and then took
up hospital training in Betheseda,
Md. .; . i
A graduate of Mt. Angel Normal
and of Ellensburg universityij she
had previously taught j school in
doui Oregon and Washington.

Scheduled in County Next Week

cussion on freezing foods by Thomas Onidorff of Oregon State college
at the Salem Chamber of Commerce Tuesday at 8 p. m. Onsdorf f is
associate professor in the foods industries department, is remembered 1
for his discussion on frozen foods at the Salem senior high school three
years ago and returns by popular request The meeting has been

All the meetings, including the
one by Onsdorff Tuesday night In
Salem are open to all interested.
Mrs. Woodburn is arranging a
number of garden meetings with
4-H clubs over the county during
the month of June.

elected student body president to
succeed Bill Rohrs, retiring presi
dent of the Dallas high school.
Those elected to serve with

Dallas Motion Picture
House Resumes Shows

DALLAS The Majestic theatre
resumed its run of motion pictures,
Wednesday night after several
weeks closure. The building was
damaged during the Irish Warner
grocery store fire. The interior
has been completely repaired and
redecorated. Shows were held in
the Rio theatre while the work
was underway. !

Census Shows
Increases in
Three Towns
A new state census for Heppner,
Pilot Rock and Stanfield.has been
completed under a law of the 1945
legislature,' it was announced here
this week by Secretary of Slate

, Stanfield's population showed
an increase from 241 in 1940 to
568, lor 134 per cent. Heppner's
population increased from 1140 to
1419 during the same period while
Pilot j Rock showed an Increase of
from 358 to 478. , j 1
The secretary of state has also
recently completed a state census
of Reedsport, Estacada and
Sandy. Population increase was
reported breach of these towns,

ence, Empire, Sutherin, Yoncalla,
Scappoose, i Cornelius and Red
mond are planning a census in the
near future
Increased population makes it
possible for Oregon towns to re
ceive j a larger -share of certain
funds apportioned by the state on
a population basis. The state
census is restricted to towns of
less than 2000 population.
Logs Catapulted
Over Train at

tree crossing while hauling logs
from the Hammond operations to

Witnesses j said the load of logs
catapulted jover the train and
were scattered on the other side
of the railroad right of way by
the force of the impact Only the
fact that there were a number of
men nearby who immediately, set
to work to ; extricate the driver,
several burning their hands in
doing so, saved the man's life.
Skeleton, Pistol Found
Near Kamela Thursday
; COVE, June 1 .-(P)- A human
skeleton and a J38 calibre pistol
found near Kamela today puzzled
authorities, who estimated the man
died at least two decades ago.

man was unidentified.;
