Magin, .who sts a student at Willamette univers ity, 1931-35, and an employ of the Montgomery Ward store here and made many friends in Salem, was killed in action April 7 in Germany. .. , , j ,; Word of Ma gin's death came to Salem this week from Amityville, NY, where his parenti the Rev. I and Mrs. Louis Magin, and his I brother, Robert, also j a former Willamette university student, re side. While tiie Rev. Mr. Marin served a Methodist church dis trict superintendent,- the family made its home here. i Louis. Hughes Magin! was born in Minneapolis, June 2?, 1913. He entered Willamette , university in 1931 and for two years was s regularly enrolled I student here The last two years of his residence in Salem, he was a special student at j the university while working downtown, . . )'-. Magin was business manager of the Collegian, student weekly newspaper, one year at Willamette and was a member of the univers ity 1 Philharmonic choir which rep resented Oregon at the Chicago Century of Progress exposition in Chicago in 1933. Leaving Willam ette, he entered Massachusetts institute of Technology, from which he was graduated in 1938 with a bachelor's degree in sd ence. While completing his senior year, he served as director of boys' work in Madison Square Church House, New York. In 1937, with his brother, he traveled by motorcycle through Europe, visit ing; 12 countries in the continent, and in 1939 he became sales man ager for the American, Furniture company in New York. He entered the service December 14, 1942, went overseas last November and was with the Seventh army when he was killed in April. INDEPENDENCE Mrt.
