Roy Hatfield, when he was pre
sented with a birthday cake and

arm bouquet of rose carnations.
Ruth Rae, maid of honor in pink
with arm bouquet of pink, carna
tions. The senior class president,
Lyle Tresham, was escort,
. The princesses wearing formals
of pastel colors! carried: snapdra
gons. They included senior, Ver
na May Culp; junior, Doris Culp;
sophomore, Marlynn Benjamin;
freshman, Joyce! JLoiselle. Escorts
were Leroy Farmer, Norman Rice,
Richard Johnson and Bob Burns.
During the noon hour the eighth
grades were given a luncheon. The
baseball g a m e ' scheduled with
Dayton and the climax of daytime
activities was called off because

The traditional May pole dance,
tumbling and - musical ! numbers
were presented.! j
The student body play "Keep
'Em Trying" was presented as a
grand finale for jthe, May day.

The, army air forces now have
the field facilities to mount 800
plane Superfortress raids against
Japan from a single island in the
Marianas. - i I
This was disclosed today in a
delayed navy dispatch from some
where in the Marianas j reporting
that seabees on' one unidentified
island have turned over to the
army the last of four big bomber
strips, each 8500 feet long and
capable of accommodating 200
B-29s. The fourth field was in use
by March 20.

Armory Guard Injured
When Shell Explodes ; -1
Kaeppeli Albert, 58, of Turner,
a guard at the armory was treated
at the Deaconess ' hospital late
Monday after a shell exploded as
he was cleaning a gun at his work.
Attendants said that the shell cut
a large gash 'near his cheek bone
and severed sin artery, which bled
profusely, but after-first aid treat
ment, he was able to return to his

in his orchard without going too

ed on the spindle between the
disks; one on each section in about
the middle of the section. 5 Others
of the same kind were seen idling
in orchards at the time I was

the pulley wheel determines the
depth. If you ,have a 20-inch
disk and want to go down about
