Heavy Selling
Drops Grains,
Barley Dives
CHICAGO.' April 20-OPV-Barley
broke the five-cent limit today and
other grain futures markets suf
fered important losses under sell
ing, that approached liquidation
during the final hour.
Fractional recoveries were made
whn chart coverins and commis
sion house support developed just
before the close, but some wneat
and rye deliveries were off nearly
two cents at the finish. I
Profit cashing and hedging were
responsible for some of the losses
and nit traders influenced by in
creased grain receipts at terminal
markets and. favorable crop , re
ports, were on the short side.
Hedge selling, particularly of
July wheat,! was credited to flour
millers and was regarded as deii
nite indication of further improve
ment in the supply of freight cars
available for midwest grain smp
ments. At the finish r wheat was
higher to 1 lower than yester
days, close, May $1.72y4-. corn
was up Va to off , May $1.12
.! Oats were down to 1,
May 63. Rye was off to 1,
May $1.30-4. ' Barley f was 4
tox5 lower, May 99.

NEW YORK, - April 20-(ff)-Se-
lected stocks, paced by rails, mov
ed into the recovery column today
although top gains running to two
or more points were reduced sub
stantially or converted into minus
signs for numerous market leaders
at the close.i
Earnings, dividends and contin
ued hopes for constructive action
by the new Washington regime
served to keep bullish fires smoul
dering. Selling cropped up in the
final hour, ; however, on the idea
that the recent sharp jump to new
8-year peaks called for more of a
technical correction. j
