The hero-dead of World war H now totals nearly 290 from Marlon '
county and the immediately surrounding area, a compilation of The '
Oregon Statesman's records showed today.
The Marion county list totals 199, the other 80 beina from Polk.

least three from the merchant ma
rine and one from the Norwegian
air force.
In many instances, it has been
impossible to determine the spe
cific branch of service, the specific
address (many living on rural
routes which might extend into
two counties gave other than their
immediate smaller communities as
their home towns in their service
records), the exact area in which
they died (official announcements
jn - many instances specify only
"theatres"), and the present home
addresses of their families.
Since there is no official source
for such a list, and. since there are
multitudinous chances of error
because of family removals and
the many sources from which the
unofficial list has been drawn, The
Statesman is requesting written
notification of missions er errors
