former marriage, v ; r -
A telegram received February 20, stated that Julia Grimes and
child had been rescued from Santa
Tomas prison, and listing Julia as
the daughter of Mrs., Poole. Julia

news ""ends a' long period of sus
pense for Mrs. Poole, who had pre
viously had no word from her son
and his family since the day after
Pearl Harbor, when they wrote
' that they had received passports
to sail for the United States in Jan
uary, 1942, because they were ex
pecting a child in the spring. Hear
ing no further word from them,
Mrs. Poole has been entirely un

Kenneth Grimes, a native of
Monmouth, is 33. He attended ele
mentary school here, entering Sa
lem schools when about 9, when
his mother moved there. He was
graduated from Salem high school
in June. 1931. and joined the arm?
tense hours until a second wirelair corps. In this connection he
went to Manila, and after complet
ing his three years in army ser

army and navy as a civilian work
er, and after serving as shop fore
man at Cavite, he became head
instrument technician at Nichols
Field. .. . "
In 1937 he was married to a girl
in Manila. Mrs. Poole received
last April a letter from Kermit
Kraus of New York city, a man
who had returned home on the
Gripsholm. He had been a good
friend of her son at Manila, and
wrote her to that effect, but had
then no current Information as to
the whereabouts of Kenneth and
his family.
