From Salem Are
Among Graduates
Two Salem marine corps vet-
' rns of the Pacific War have been
graduated from infantry school
battalion, a super-combat school
which trains these men for in
structors. They are: .
CpL Charles R. Brown, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leone E. Brown of
route 6, Salem. A graduate of
Salem high school in' 1936, Cor
poral Brown enlisted in the mar
ine corps in February, 1941 and
later served aboard the USS Hon
olulu in the Pacific.
CpL Thomas W. King, sdn of
Mr. and Mrs. H. G. King of 1770
South Liberty street, Salem, who
also joined the marine corps in
February, 1941. 7

i coastguard will hold a competitive
examination for 'appointment of
cadets to the coastguard; academy,
May 9 and 10. This is open to
physically, qualified young men,
either military or civilian, between
the ages of 17 and 22 years. Edu
cational requirements are in gen
; eral, those necessary for admis
sion to engineering colleges, and
graduates!! of the four-year course
are commissioned ensigns in the
regular coastguard.

to Big Creek, Calif., before going
on to Fort Ord. Their two da ugh
ten, Peey and Diane, I are with

class, UJS. naval reserve, has been
spending a 30-day leave with his
father, J. O. j Martin. I and other them. They lived at Big Creek
