vice. Graduated from Albany high
i school in 1942, he enlisted in the
U. S. naval air corps in Septem-
- ber of that same year, reporting
from Portland to Corpus Christi;
i Texas, for preliminary training!
I From there he was : sent to Nor
' man, Okla and later to air gun
nery school at Pure ell, Okla. La-
ter he was assigned to the Jack
I sonville, Fla., operational gunners"
school, gradua ting in March,
.1944, with the rating' of aviation
gunner, third class. ,
From Jacksonville Palmer Was
transferred to Seattle and Whid
-by ..Island, where had been
'stationed since last April. Being
a gunner and a bombardier, he
was stationed in the very nose, of
the fuselage at the time of the
fatal accident, his parents .have
learned. J
; Surviving besides his parents
are two aunts, Mrs. Glenn Jun
kin of Albany, and Mrs. Neva
Rochford of Seattle; and two
uncles, Arthur Palmer and.Les

ports, the ( Scio postoffice sold
more stamps and -fewer money
orders during the final quarter
of 1944 than in the same period
in 1943, Postmaster E. Phillips
reports.
Stamps for the 1944 final quar
ter were $2159.76, and for 1943
were $201659. 1944 money orders
were $9825,62, and for 1943 were
$11,102.80. ' i
Series E War Bonds sold at the
postoffice during December were
$14,962.50, pPhillips said.

tended illness, Mrs. Leona Case,
70, died in the Albany General
hospital Sunday, January 7. Fun
eral ! services will be held from
the Fisher Funeral home Thurs
day, January 11, at 2 o'clock Bu
rial will be in Riverside. !
Born in j Linn county April 18,
1874, Mrs. Case had spent her
entire life in the county. On May
2, 1894, she was married to Dar
win N. Case, who died in 1928.
For a 'number of years Mrs. Case
was an employe of the L. E. Ham
ilton store. She was a member of
the Christian church. 1 S
Surviving Is a daughter, Mrs.
Tressa Stellmacher of Tangent;
a sister, Mrs. Hannah Haight of
Scio; and two brothers,: Victor
Wickizer of San . Francisco, and
Will Wickizer of Albany, i

ALBANY Anton Bradeson,
96, died at his home on Wash
ington street, January 6. Funeral
services were held January 9,
Burial was made in City View
cemetery at Salem.
j Born in Norway, September 4,
1848, Anion Brandeson lived for a
time in Wisconsin fterxoming to
the United States, and in 1890 he
came to Oregon and for almost
half a century had resided in this
state; He was a retired farmer.
While in' Wisconsin- he married
Josephine Tpycen, now deceased.
Surviving are six children,
Charles of Otis, Swen of Los An-
geles, Victor of Seattle, Mrs.' Alma
Altree of Portland, Mrs. Berdie
Zaloom of Albany, and Mrs. Ju
liette Christiansen of JJewport.

Meeting Called
A. meeting has been called for
farmers of the Brunk t corner
area, to be held at the Cook home,
route ? 4, box 448, five miles out
the Dallas highway across from
Ma Beebe's. The session will be
at t:30 Thursday night. .
It is being called for the pur
pose of determining if farmers are
interested in constructing labor
saving devices and in repairing
broken machinery at no charge.
This is a war emergency proj
ect and the meeting Is being called
by the state department of voca
tlonal agricultural education and
the Salem1 public schools system.

Woodburn Man Retires
To Grow Filberts

WOODBURN Thea Shelij who
has been operating a variety store
here for the last 10 years has sold
his store to Dean Bishoprick and
will retire. Shell expects to de
vote more time ta his 40 acre
filbert orchard a mile and a half
south of Woodburn' on the high
way. f
He will continue to live in Wood-
burn, however, and the orchard
will be In charge of a manager as
it has been for some time.
Bishoprick has been; manager of
the First National bank of port-
land, Woodburn branch, coming
here from Gresham several years
ago. ;.
