Sgt Jacques W. Boydston. son of
Mr. and Mrs. William A. Boydston
of 1004 Ellis street, Dallas, Ore.
has been awarded the air medal
for "meritorious ; achievement
while - - participating in several
bombardment missions over - en-
,txaj territory. Sergeant Boydston
serves as a nose gunner on a B-24
Liberator.--'
Boydston is a member of. the
63 rd bombardment group, the old
est Liberator group in the Euro-
pean theatre-of operations. Be
tides the airinedal, he also wears
the distinguished unit ribbon, a
group citation from the war de
partment, for the 93rd's action on
the Ploesti Oil fields in Rumania
; In August of 1943, and the Euro
pean theatre ribbon.
Boydston flew with his crew in
support ox me ground forces on
November 18 in the Metz area
, when the Allies opened their new
offensive in that sector.
Before entering the .'army, Sgt
Boydston was a student at Ore
gon State, college. He graduated
from Dallas high school in 1942.

One of the latest recruits to re
port to Hunter's college, US na
val training school for WAVES in
New York City, was Miss Mar
garet Jean Wheeler of Dallas,
Chief Specialist A. C Friesen, of
the Salem navy recruiting station
announced today.
Miss Wheeler wag graduated
from Dallas high school with the
class of 1941 and attended the
Oregon college of Education at
Monmouth for one year. For the
last two years, she was employed
by the Columbia Air Craft Corp.,
in Portland. Her parents, Mr.' and
Mrs. R. H. Wheeler reside at 712
Ellis street, Dallas.
GERVAIS Robert M. Holon-
bek. merchant marine, is , home
from the South Pacific and will
remain until January IS, when he
will enter officers' training school
at Alhambra, Calif.

supply line between the United
States and Europe, the ATCs Eu
ropean division operates hundreds
of cargo and passenger planes
monthly, carrying important pas
sengers, vital war cargo, the all
important soldiers' mail, and 're
turning wounded American sol
diers to ;the United States.

cations for enlistment in the naval
construction battalion by men Vho
are contemplating' early induction,
was today urged by A.C Friesen,
chief specialist of the Salem navy
recruiting station. Enlistment re
quirements must be fully! satis
fied prior to actual induction, ta
assure Seabee assignment, accord
ing to Friesen. -
"The need for Seabees is acute,
by reason of the fast pace set by
naval forces: in Pacific war' the
atres," ' Friesen said. "The navy
needs 350,000 skilled craftsmen
within the next six months."
Carpenters surveyors, pipe-fitters,
plumbers, welders, divers,
storekeepers, black smiths, me
clianics, shipffitters, bos'n 'mates,
and stevedores not presently em
ployed in essential industry are
among the tirades - classifications
eligible fog, enlistment in the con
struction battalion. First and sec
ond class petty officer rates are
available for qualified men. r
