Study lights
Planning Commission
To Hold Hearing -In
January
SILVERTON Silverton's
lighting system will be studied at
the January meeting of the Sil
verton Planning cemmission. The
. public will be-4nvited to sit in
at the meeting and a representa
tive of the' Portland General
Electric company will be Invited
to speak.
The meeting probably will be
. held at the chamber of commerce
rooms with special invitations
Issued to the chamber, of com
merce, the Rotary and the Lions
clubs and a general invitation to
- the public. James Clough, local
company manager, will make ar
rangements for the speaker.
' At the Friday night meeting of
the commission, called by Mrs. X.
--A. McClanathan, acting president,
Mayor Reber Allen and City
Manager. Harry C. McCrea report
ed on New berg's lighting system
which they recently inspected.
Rholin Colley reported the, high
school manual training depart-
. merit, of which William Gates is
instructor, had promised to make
benches and tables for the city
park if the city would furnish
the lumber.
Members of the commission re
ported considerable vandalism of
street signs. Special efforts will
be made to catch the culprits and
punishment meted out,city of ft
cials say.
; The Friday night meeting1 was
the regular December meeting,
advanced because it would fall
on Christmas.

Fractures Leg Russell Hicks of
Lincoln suffered a fractured- leg
while scuffling after school in Sa
lem last week. He is now on
crutches and will be unable to
take part in the high school, and
church plays. '"

Return From Trip Mr. and
Mrs. Otis Rawlins and two chil
dren have returned to Dallas af
ter a trip east to Tyrone, Okla.,
where her father was ill. They
visited in Los Angeles and Kan
sas on the way home.
Donors Register
For January Visit
MT. ANGEL When the mo
bile blood unit comes to Mt Angel
on January 4 the donors will be
permitted to sign the label that
goes on a pint of blood and dedi
cate it to any serviceman or ser
vicewoman he or she may choose.
This does not mean that the blood
will 'go to the person designated
but that it is given in his honor,
Two hundred pints will be col
lected at the next visit to Mt.
Angel and at least 225 volunteers
are wished. Registration is now
under way at the Marion County
Farmers Union- Oil Co., Fisher
Pharmacy, Mt Angel Cooperative
Creamery, Als Place, Traeger
Brothers, Hotel Fountain and the
Mt Angel Farmers Union ware

The Legion and Auxiliary each

boxes for the 4700 veterans of the
present war hospitalized in army
and naval hospitals in Oregon. -
