Wheat Weak:
Other Grains
Make Gains
CHICAGO; Dec. l.-(P)-May
and December wheat were weak
and under the pressure of liquida
tion today but most of the re$t
of the grain, list registered frac
tional gains. Cora was firm at the
finish with the spot contract up
nearly a cent, . " '
Long liquidation of December
wheat, which opened lower, was
spurred by reports that 200,000
bushels ' of the ' grain had been
tendered at Minneapolis. Many of
the sales were made against pur
chases of the new crop months,
July and September, which were
steady to firm most of the day.' .
Some , purchases of deferred
wheat futures were attributed to
short covering prompted by a re
port on the trading floor that
Secretary of Agriculture Wickard
had denied he would advocate a
two-price plan under which parity
would be guaranteed only for that
port of the wheat crop used do
mestically for food. A rumor that
such a plan was -being considered
caused heavy liquidation Thurs
day.--- ;vrr:T--vvv-.! ,. ' .
At the close wheat was V high
er to 1 cent lower than yesterday's
finish, December $1.68 4. Corn
was unchanged to higher, De
cember $1.14. pats were up Vk
to , December 69 Rye was
lower to higher, December
$1.11 Barley was higher
to lower, ! December $1.13 .
Stock Market
Closes Fast,
Strong Week
NEW YORK. Dec. 16.WAn-The
stock market today concluded one
of its fastest 'and strongest weeks
since last June with recently
climbing rails and assorted indus
trials meeting sufficient selling
resistance to stall the rise. -
The fact that the averages, with
only minor interruptions had been
bitting new 7-year peaks since the
start or the month on heavy vol
umes tended to sober Wall street
enthusiasts. I
Dealers were speedy from the
start and turnover of 1.D2L340
shares compares with 1,044,809 a
week ago and was the second
largest Saturday aggregate since
June 17.! It was the twelfth con
secutive session in which turnover
exceeded the million-share level.
Total for the week of 8,328,310
was a record figure since the per
iod ending July 1.
Owing to declining rails, the As
sociated Press 60-stock composite
was off .1 of a point at 58.1 but
on the week showed a net gain of
.8 of a point .The market again
was broad, 852 issues, registering.
Of these, 327: were up against 525
down or unchanged.
