Young Adults
Change Time '
Th Young Adults of the First
Methodist church have changed
the meeting time W 9:45 Sunday
morning, effective November ,12.
The change was made to provide
time convenient to a larger
group. The meeting time will ap
peal specially to young married
people as classes for both parents
and children are now available at
the same time, 'as well as a Youth
Church ' for the children during
the regular church hour.
V. D. Bain, state department of
education, will be the main dis
cussion leader for the group and
others, will be invited to lead the
discussions during the year. Frank
Bennett, city . superintendent of
schools, will speak at the meeting
Sunday morning. A monthly din
ner and social hour is: planned. as
a part of the regular program.
Salem Bible School
Is Organized Here
An . Interdenominational Bible
school, to be known as Salem Bi
ble Institute, started Tuesday at
the M. B. church. West Salem. It
will be open Tuesday and Thurs
day from 6:45' to .9:3s) pjn.k with
three periods and a chapel service
each night.

work in West China, and Mrs.

of Bacone College, Baptist school

Bear in Boat
Far Off Shore

scarred trapper told today how he
battled a big black bear in a
rowboat while' halfway across
Huntington lake.
The trapper, John Vistak, want
ed. to bring the bear back alive to
cage at a public camp. He knocked
him unconscious, tied him, pulled
a gunny sack over his head, load
ed him in a rowboat and started
back across the lake.
When the boat reached the mid
dle of the lake a good half mile
from either shore the animal
worked loose from his bonds,
shook the sack off his head, and
gave Vistak a very disapproving
glance.' ; ' f-T - ."-'-M:
Action began immediately.

blow, on the hand with a huge
paw. vistak retired to his end of
the boat
Round three saw the finish of
the fight Vistak stunned the ani
mal with blows from-an oar.
Despite his injured hand, Vis
tak again tied the bear, this time
more 'securely,- and took him
ashore. " - :
The animal was put in the cage
and Vistak said he was through
giving boat rides to bears.
