Learns How
To Get Votes
LEWISTOX, Idaho, Aug. 11-VS)
-Voters hav$ divers ways of de
termining the qualifications of
candidates tor public office but
perhaps none more ingenuous than
the wartime method of a Payette
county farmer. ' J
Glenn Taylor, democratic candi
date for the US senate, who vis
ited 'here today, was nursing a
badly blistered hand as a result of
the farmer's resourceful idea.
When the candidate called on the
farmer to talk about election Is
sues, he found the farmer putting
up hay.
Tell you what," invited the
farmer. "You take this pitchfork
and. just follow along and we -will
talk about politics."
Taylor seized the pitchfork and
started pitching, but every time he
attempted conversation, the farm
er said, "right after the next load
is on." They pitched through the
afternoon. When the supper, gong
rang, the farmer shook hands with
the perspiring candidate and said:
"Thanks for the lift with the
harvest work. I just wanted to
find out if you've got what it lakes
you have. Every senator ought
to have a course in haying."
