: Hayter arrived in Dallas Monday,
I on a 20-day leave from his duties
; in the quartermaster's corps in At
lanta Ga. Mrs. Hayter accom
panied him as far as Portland,
where she is visiting her parents
before coming to Dallas. Lt. Hay
ter is visiting his mother, Mrs. Os
car Hayter. He states that it is
very hot in Georgia at this season,
and that he will enjoy the cooler
weather in Oregon. This is his
first visit home since last Septem
ber, when he had emergency leave
at the time of his father's death.

Richardson, who has been in gun
nery school at Camp Laredo, Tex
as. is leaving Dallas for his new
post in Yuma, Ariz. He will be an
instructor in .gunnery in the Army
air corps. While In Dallas Pfc.
Richardson and his wife visited his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Rich
ardson, and his sister, Mrs. Dwaine
Chretien (Marian ; Richardson),
who came Friday from Seattle to
see her brother, and left Monday.

pany her husband as far as Ger
ber, Calif, where she will visit
with her parents until Pfc. Rich
ardson can find living quarters for
them in Yuma. ' . "

Le Jeune, NC. He will report to
Camp Parks, Calif, j
Stanton, who attended Salem
high school, was working, at Reid
Murdock when he j enlisted ten
months ago. P
Two other Stanton boys are in
the service. Ralph, a seaman sec
ond class, is in the navy and now
on active duty in the P a c i fl c.
Warren, a private first -clasa in
the arm yair corps, is stationed at
Ft Riley, Kans.

Lt. (jg) A. Carleton of Salem has recently been assigned as
an instructor on the staff of the US naval training center at Mi
ami, Fla., according to information contained in a letter from
him to his wife, who makes her home In Salem Heights, He was
sent to Miami from Boston after having completed ii. period of
training which began when he entered the naval reserve in Aug
ust, 1943. During this period he
has crossed the continent three
times. . v i i , , i
Lt Carleton writes that he likes
the - assignment at Miami very
much since officers who have seen
service in all parts of the world
are sent there' for refresher cours
es and further training, and these
men are most intensely interested
in their work. j

lem. He is now on leave of. ab
sence for the duration. Mrs. Carle
ton and their young son, Gerald,
have left; for Miami to be with

discovery that his former high
school assistant principal was to
be one of his instructors.

just completed a refresher course
at Miami after two voyages. Ho is
to go on to further: training in the
nation's capital. Mrs. Childs and
their small daughter, Carole, will
leave Portland late this month to
join him in Washington, DC, where
one of his sisters. Mrs. F. A. de-

went to Eugene to a ! wedding
dinner in honor of Mr. land Mrs.
Melvin Hunt recently: married.
Miss Rust and Mrs. Nelson are
sisters of the groom. The dinner
was at the home of his mother,

acre Ivan Leffler farm north of
Scio and plans to put the entire
acreage into berries. The Lefflers
have purchased the John Dill res
idence in Scio and will taken pos
session about Sept 1. Mr. and
Mrs, Dill plan to return to Alsea,
their former home. ?
W. H. Harder has sold his 63
acre "Malaha" farm eight miles
southeast of .Scio to a California
family. : They will take possession
after peaches, filberts and berries
are harvested. Mr. and Mrs. John
Klndrick, who have occupied the
place for several years, have not
announced definite plans for the

escaped serious injury r Sunday
when he was hit by a passing au
tomobile trailer at the railroad
crossing. -
The boy was returning from
Sunday school and had crossed
the railroad track. Watching the
train he stepped in the path of the
automobile. The driver saw and
turned aside but the trailer hit
the boy. His injuries Included a
gash. on his head and bruises on
his feet
also occupied a cottage on the
Harder place, will move to Port
land to make her home with her
daughter, Rose Holec.
