Visits Many, M arion r orks MARION FORKS-James Rob Inette visited- at Marion Forks Sunday morning, Sunday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Earl "VVoodley, Mr. - and Mrs. Homer Brantner, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Climick and family, all of Santiarn Junction; Mr. and Mrs. Max Harlan, Mrs! Oskie, Dorothy and party and Vic Meyers, all from Detroit. Saturday evening a party from Dallas, Tex, spent a few pleas ant hours here. Members were Alta Heeea, Barbara Evans Hosea, Mrs. Winnie Hosea, J. F." Hosea and Pvt H. L. Hosea. The forest service are now re pairing telephone lines and work ing on the trails to lookouts and lakes in this vicinity. William Wy at is foreman on this work. Clif ford White and Keith Grimes are his helpers. Mrs. George Stuff and son, Mike, were Monday visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Wolfe of Idanha fished Marion creek Sun day. Farraiid Is New Director LIBERTY The annual school meeting for Liberty district No. 71 was held Monday evening : with John Dasch in charge. - .. i Roy Farrand was elected to the school board to repace IE ;H. Staggs, whose term expired at this time. Mrs. Mason Bishop was re elected school clerk. The budget for the school for the coming year was presented by the board and voted accepted. The hold-over board members are John Dasch and John Van Xoh: Mr. Dasph will rw th chair man for the next year. Library Receives Book in Grover Wicknian's Memory SILVERTON In Grover . Wickham. Mr. Johnson and Miss Olga Johnson gave to the Public library, a copy oi oasu xvimers new book "George Washington Carver," the story of a chad traded for a horse, later fighting his own way through for an education and becoming known as the "Ebony Scientist." This book appeared on the most recent list; What America Is Reading, published weekly bv Herald Tri bune Book Review. Silverton's library shelves fiava been greatly enriched from time to time by worth- while- books wnicrr - Mrs. Johnson and her daughter. Miss Johnson, have riv en sometimes in memory of a friend, and sometimes lust riven. Miss Johnson, who is-on the school zacuity has been particularly gen erous with donations to the Chil dren s shelves. Reading at the Public librarr has been holding up remarkably well, according to the - library board, headed by Mrs. H. B. La- inam, wno is reporting, one or the busiest .summers since 1934, the peak year. In making the grade leaving the Wheatland fer ry -on the Marion county side the engine failed to function when about half way up and the load started backwards- and did not pick up until the wheels reached the water's edge and the heavy anchor rope, holding the ferry, snapped. Miss Glenerva Harnsberger has accepted a teach ing position as science and physic al education instructor ! in the Union High school at Myrtle Point Miss Harnsberger was a member of the graduating class this spring at Willamette University in Salem. She will attend summer school at Willamette this summer for added credits. Her sister Miss La Verne Harns berger, a Junior at Willamette last year, is leaving soon for Berkeley, Cal to attend school. - .
