for office In the coming primary
election: Dan Harmon, Denver
Young, Walter Larrikin, French
and Lewis Judson. Ronald Jones
spoke for Wayne . Morse, who
could not be present. Ex-Judge
. McMahan spoke for Lewis Judson,
a member of the Farmers Union.
Earl DeSart . reported on i uses
and advantages of ' a proposed
motion picture projector; -Mrs
Elton Watts of the educational
committee announced ' that W. G
Nibler would show a motion pic
ture at the next meeting. Other
reports were made by Frank Way
of the legislative committee; Er
nest . Werner of the Co-op com
mittee and Mrs. Earl DeSart of
the cheer committee; Mrs. . O. . G
McClaughry, Mrs. Earl DeSart,
Alvin Kong and William Hatte
berg. were appointed to arrange
time and place of the annual pic
nic of the Central Howell local;
new names proposed for mem
bership were Paul Andresen and
W. F. Hughey.

Holds Luncheon

CLEAR LAKE The Woman's
"Missionary society of the Evan
gelical church met for a 1 o'clock
luncheon at" the 'home of, Mrs.
George McKenzie Tuesday. Eight
. members and two children , were
served.' Mrs. Wechter, recently of
Seattle; Mrs. Kimball, Mrs. Clif
ford - Robertson and Mrs. Robert
Shea were special guests. .
Following the luncheon, . the
.regular " meeting was : held in
'charge of Mrs. William Cooksley,
president. Devotions, were led by
Hazel Clemet and a review of a
chapter of the study, book, "We
Who Are Americans," was given
by Mrs. Laureen i Stettler. Mrs.
Fred Stolk, ' the oldest mother
present, was presented with a
bouquet by little Carol Mason.
In observance of "Christian
Family Week," a special service
will be held Sunday night, May
14. Special musical numbers and
play, "Sowing and Reaping,"
will be presented by the young
people. An award will be given to
each complete family group pres
ent - '

Better No Help,
Than No Car?
PRIXGLE William Meier
has been looking . for a . hired
man for his ranch and last week
considered himself lucky to get
one. Ilowever his lack was of
short duration. The new man
took the car which the Meier
girls- drive to school and de
parted. The ear was recovered by po
lice in a ditch near Hubbard in
very poor condition and police
are,' sUll looking for the "hired
man."

He was born at Fort Wayne."
Ind., and has lived in various lo
calities in several states, comine
from Oklahoma to Oregon.
He received many cards and
letters and gifts from relatives
and friends. He has one son in
service in Australia and another
soon to be inducted.
East Salem Extension
Group to Meet Friday
SWEGLE - Friday the last
meeting of the East Salem home
extension unit until fall will be
held at Swegle schoolhouse. The
lesson will be on "touch ups" for
furniture and in charge of Miss
Frances Clinton, county home
demonstration agent.
Tuesday Mrs. William McKin-
ney and Mrs. Homer J. Conklin
attended the meeting in Salem of
the delegates from all units to
plan the projects that the units
may have for their meetings next
fall. . - :
