Grain Market
Tone Steady
CHICAGO, March rrrains
moved within a narrow range in
a quiet trade today, but the un
dertone of the market wai steady.
" Most of the activity was provided
by local professionals and con
sisted of evening-up transactions
for the week end.
At one time rye spurted for
gains of major fractions, but this
upturn was lost quickly. Many
' grainmeri still believe an outlet
for rye will be found in industrial
alcohol production.
At the close wheat was 1838
' higher than yesterday's finish,
: May $1.71, oats were V4- high
er, May 80, and rye was un
. changed. May $1.28-$l.-8tt-.
There was no trading in barley.
Good " moisture was received
over a large part of the, midwest,
improving the outlook for the
winter wheat crop. However, it
tended to slow down the offer
ings of corn from the ' country.
Bookings were .placed at about
6000 bushels.
