Funds Sought
Once again members and friends
of the First Presbyterian . church
of Salem responded to the call of
the General Assembly to, assist
In the spiritual ministry of the
men in the service, Rev. W. Irvin
Williams, pastor, reports. Last year
the local congregation subscribed
$1200 for this fund, as against an
assigned , total of $500. .This year
the allocation to the Salem church
was $800,' and for the second time
the congregation, exceeded, their
goal . 5 .the special offering v of
Sunday having raised the giving to
this war-time cause past the $1250
mark, with additional gifts yet to
be received. . --- '
.This national fund of over one
and a quarter million dollarse to
be raised by the Presbyterfan
churches of the world service
is being expended in three ways
first, for American boys in sup
plementing the material and equip
ment of -Presbyterian chaplains
and in , Presbyterian ? hospitality
houses where USO facilities are
not adequate, particularly In iso
lated posts; secondly; it f is '..""ex
pended in defense areas - for the
creation of church schools, church
es, social end worship centers.
