Attended
By Many
Over 100 adults and youths at
tended the reception held at the
YMCA Wednesday night honor
ing Mrs. Elaine Clower Fisher,
Girl Reserve secretary and other
Girl Reserve leaders. Leaders
honored as well as Mrs. Fisher
were Miss Ethel Piers on of the
school for the deaf; Mrs. Ellen
Fisher, Mrs. Lloyd Hockett, Miss
Irene Hollenbeck, Miss Carolyn
Wilson, Mrs. Albert Cohen, Mrs.
Marjorie Carson of the Salem
high school; and, Misses Del von
Long, Margaret Forsythe, Lau
ra Jean Bates, Marian Carter,
Phyllis Nelson, Frances Metier,
and Patricia Otis, Willamette
university students and former
Girl Reserves.
In addition to Girl Reserve
members and their parents, va
rious adults working with youth
and board and committee mem
bership of the YWCA, members
-of the service men's wives
group, the Tagalong club, at
tended the reception in a body.
The Tagalong club present were
Mrs. Lillian Wechsler, Mrs. Vel
ma Franks, Mrs. lone Ahsem
macher, Mrs. Sunny Weise, Mrs.
Kay Wallin and Mrs. Marjorie
Pitts.
Mrs. G. Herbert Smith, Mrs.
W. E. Kirk, Mrs. Claude Glenn
and Mrs. L. W. Clower presided
at the tea table, which carried
out the fall motif with a center
piece of 'fruits and rosewood ta
pers ; arranged by Mrs. George
Allen.
Those in charge of the service
were Mrs.' Frank- Spears and
Mrs. Arthur Selander. Girl Re
serves assisting were; Dolly Da
vidson, Parrish 7; Vivian Bar
ham, Parrish 8; Marilyn Morse,
Parrish 9; Gayle Juve, Leslie 8;
Jacqueline Notick, Leslie 8;
Helen Shelton, Leslie 8; Ruth
Fuller, Leslie 8 and Marilyn
Hill, Leslie 9.

The November meeting of the
Ministers Wives association has'
been postponed until the Christ
mas meeting. The group was to
. have met Tuesday at the home
of Mrs. David Nielsen. The De
cember meeting will be at the
home of Mrs.- J. C. Harrison.

The Salem unit of Zonta, ih-

observed Zonta's twenty fourth
anniversary Thursday evening,
: November 11, at the home of
Miss Helen Yockey on South
High street. Mrs. H. W. Wink
ler was hostess for the event and
was assisted by Miss Yockey.

arranged the program, introduc
ed as guest speaker Mr. Irl Mc
Sherry, state director of the war
chest. I The anniversary procla
mation of the international pres-
. ident was read by Miss Nellie
Schwab, and Dr. Helen Pearce,
past international president, con
ducted' the impressive initiation
ceremony and told of the aims
' and achievements of the organi
zation. Of special interest was
the report of the rapd growth of
the Amelia Arehart aeronautical
scholarship, founded in memory
of a world renowned Zontian.
New members welcomed were
Miss Neva LeBlonde, Mrs. Lucia
Dare Tyler, Mrs. Effie Arehart
and Miss Edna Lucker. Addi
tional "guests at the social hour
were Miss Jess McDonald of Sa
lem and Mrs. Franklin Thordar
son of Portland.

church. Afterwards a breakfast

ent, i introduced Mrs. Rose Bell
of Stayton, state regent, who
gave a very interesting report
of her trip to the national Cathr
" olic Daughters of American con
vention held in Cleveland, Ohio,
in August.
At the close of the business
meeting Mrs. Josephine Kenyon,
chairman of the program com
mittee; presented Mrs. Caroline
Free, who read a paper on the
history of "Catholic Religious
Orders in the Northwest."

club at dinner Sunday night at
their home on South Liberty
street. Bridge will be in play
during the evening.
