- Late Rally in Rye, 1
Oats, Lifts Cereal Out
Of Earlier Losses ,
By WILLIAM FERRIS
CHICAGO, Oct. 22-tfP)-A late
rally in rye and oats, helped along
by short -covering, put some life
into a grain market which had
drifted lower in moderate trading
most of the session today. Wheat,
off fractionally early, recovered
all its loss and finished with min
or gains. -
At the finish wheat was un
changed Xo' Vt higher, December
$1.54i. May 91.53, rye was
-l cent higher, December $1.12-A-H.
ats were up Va-IM and
barley was ahead , .
Wheat eased early on reports
an OPA ceilinff on soft 'wheat
would soon be announced. While
such action would not come as a
surprise, some traders ' felt it
would emphasize the possibility
of eventual ceiling on hard wheat.
Futures trading is based upon
hard wheat contracts. "" -
News that the food distribution
administration is requesting offers
on 40,000,000 pounds of enriched
wheat . flour, of which 10,000,000
pounds are for immediate deliv-,
ery, had little effect on wheat fu
tures. - ' ' . , . -
After Long Journey
Letter Returns at. Last r
BATON ROUGE, La. tf
Capt Guy W. Neom, special ser
vices officer at Harding field,
whote a half - page letter last June
to Morrison field. West Palm
Beach, Fla., about a soldier who
forgot to return a book to the
base library.
The letter followed the soldier
overseas, then to a training wing
and then to the headquarters of
Gen. Jimmy Doolittle, command-
ing general of the north African
strategic air force.
The general's adjutant for-
- warded the letter to the proper
wing, which sent it to the proper
group; which saw that it got to
the proper squadron which in
dorsed it with the information
that the cost of the book would
be deducted from the soldier's
' pay. .
After traveling back through
the same channels, the letter fin
ally arrived back at Harding field.

When romantic, willow-bower-ed

filling the old bed with the earth
from the new channel.
The work will give the airport
