OUARA NEW YORK, Sept. 21-VThe stock market was beset by profit taking today after five successive advances and, while oils ' and scattered favorites managed to emerge on the upside, many lead ers finished under water. The direction was cloudy from the start, The opening" was fairly active but. dealings tapered .as of ferings appeared. The oil group came, up at the last as growing demand for . peroleum products revived talk' of a possible per mitted price hoist for crude in order to stimulate new discover ies and developments in this field. Steels, . rails, rubbers, copper, utilities and the strong blue chips of Monday were uneven, through out. "While closing . variations mostly, were in minor fractions, there were a few spreads either way of 1 to 2 or more points with minus marks .predominating. The Associated Press 60-stock composite was off .1 of a point at 51.5, its first recession since last Tuesday.' Breadth of the previous day was lacking. Of 847 individual issues traded, 344 were down, 271 up and 232 unchanged. Transfers of 743,366 shares compared with 1,098,320 the day before which was a top since Aug. 3. Reorganization rail bonds con tinued to improve. In the curb modest advances were made. ; Hazel Green Folk Redecorate, Build Additions to Homes . '. Labish Schools Staff Revealed, ning LABISH CENTER Mrs. Har lan Pearsall, clerk of the school board, ; has announced that the grade school will -open on Septem ber 27 with Mrs. Sumpter acting as principal as last year.
