States to Get Wildlife Grants WASHINGTON, August 6 -(A1) Interior " Secretary Ickes an nounced Friday the apportion ment of $910,000 to various states for Improvement of wildlife con ditions. States are required to put up 25 per cent more in order to obtain the federal grants. The total amount which thus may be made available for federal-aid wildlife work this fiscal year will be $1,223,333. ) Federal funds used for the pro gram come from the ten per cent excise tax . on any ammunition and sporting arms. Although ear marked for wildlife restoration work, the money can be spent only as congress' authorizes? The authorization this year was $1,000,000. Eight per cent will go for administrative purposes, $9000 for restoration work in Alaska, $1000 to the Virgin islands, and the rest to participating states. The largest sum is set aside for Michigan, which can get $54,143. Texas ranks second with $47,592 and Pennsylvania third with $43, 646.
