NEW YORK, June Scat
tered specialties breasted the
downward - stock market ' current
with some success in Monday's
session Jtut many leaders suffered
losses of "fractions to more than
two points.
- Brokers found nothing out
standing to account for the gen
eral retreat Profit cashing on the
13-months upswing- may hare
been one reason. Commitments
were lightened because of persis
tent tax and 1 a b o r doubts and
start of the expected big- allied
. European invasion. The encour
aging factor, from the standpoint
of the bulls, was that' offerings
never were urgent. Analysts ; in
clined to term the dip a partial
"healthy technical correction' of
the push to the highest average
level since late 1939.
Mild advances were well : dis
tributed at the start. Rails then
began to back water as hearings
got under way on demands of op
erating brotherhoods for a 30 per
cent wage boost. Other groups
were quick to follow. There were
a few recoveries near the close.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks was off .5 of a point at
51.7, widest drop in this barom
eter since May 14. The market
was fairly broad, 920 individual
issuesk being traded Of these 488
were losers, 233 gainers and 199
unchanged. Transfers totaled
1,212,820 shares against 1,254,855
in the preceding 5-hour stretch.
Chrysler was a soft spot at one
time and ended off at 81 not
withstanding the company report

share compared with $1.13 in the
like 1942 months. General motors
conceded at 55y4. '

to carry munitions overseas,

ing barges and special, types of
boats will need west coast lumber
until' the war takes a decisive
turn. There is yet no prospect 'of
decline in total volume of lumber
required for war. A greater part
of the total national requirements
is now being brought to the west

of west coast mills.
The bottleneck of lumber pro

the great over-all problem still is
