NEW YORK, April. 22.-tf-The
stock market was steady Thurs
day in the face of a fait amount
of profit selling and rubber
shares and specialties registered
sizable gains.
Best prices were ihtdcd in
many instances and some leaders
closed slightly lower. ,
The usual good Friday suspen
sion of business led to some scal
ing' down of speculative commit
ments. Dealings to tale d 1,249,290
shares compared with 1,141,363
the previous day. The Associated
jpress 60 stock average rose' .1 of
point Jo 48 JB.
Utilities had another interval
of activity. Steels, a nttle ahead
at one time, finished about even.
Aircrafts were better and rails
mixed.
US Rubber closed 1 higher
and Goodyear rose a point Du
Pont had i similar rise. Moder
ately higher were Chrysler, Good
rich, Douglas, General Electric,
and Standard Oil of NJ.
In lower ground were General
Motors, American Can, Dow
Chemical, Allied Chemical and
Great Northern. .

She won second last year.

the usual-dull pre-holiday trade,
grain prices firmed Thursday on
moderate buying roming from
commission houses. Interest in
the market was small in view of
Friday's good Friday holiday.
. At the close wheat was up 14
May $1.44Vi, July 1.43 W-H;
corn was unchanged at ceilings.
May $1.05, oats advanced ,i-4
and rye was up
Trading In the May corn con
tract was restricted at the max
imum . and grain men said the
market appeared be back
where it was before OPA lifted

j There was little news to influ
ence wheat prices, either from
the growing belt or Washington.
Traders were interested in seeing
how much warehouse stored loan
wheat may be redeemed before
April 30, when government loads
on such wheat mature. It is es
timated that between 100,000,000
and 160,000,000 will come into
government hands. ....
There was good buying in the
May oats contract, apparently
based on strong demand for cash
grain.

Plane for Use -In
Air Training
TALBOT Dale Turnidge made
a recent trip to Klamath Falls to
get his plane and deliver it at
Bend. The government has bought
it for use in training.

Medium wools were in demand today
by manufacturers for use in army
blanket orders. Sales of country-graded
three-eighths and quarter blood
wools were made at the following
grease-basis prices, delivered mill:
Ohio and Michigan. 64c; Missouri,
53,ic; Iowa and Minnesota. 52.c.
Prices to growers in the fleece wool
states were reported as slightly easier.
