Honey ..Goes In Dishes .'As Sweet Honey (If you can get it, and if yon can afford it!) Is tin- rationed, and makes a good fla- vored sweet for lots , of things, ' Here are several rescipes, al- though not tried by this writer, have aQ the indications of good i recipes to have during these war , days. -;: -v-zr- - - SONET COOKIES ' . cup honey l .is cup shortening . ', , - 2 eggs beaten ' V teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon " 1 teaspoon vanilla teaspoon cloves . . 1 teaspoon soda . i teaspoon baking powder 2 cups flour M cup chopped nuts . Heat honey and shortening un u UAt4iucu aum- auu vkkx. Beat welL Lightly stir In remain- ing ingredients and chill dough, if - convenient. Break off small bits of dough and flatten down, S inches apart, on greased baking sheet- Bake 12 minutes in mod erate oven. Cookies with honey in them will scorch easily so watch them carefully while bak ing. - HONEY LOAF H cop shortening .14 cup sugar is cup honey is cup milk . 2 eggs, beaten , 1 teaspoon grated orange rind .. 1 teaspoon vanilla . V teaspoon salt Vi cup nuts or raisins . 2Ya cups flour 2-teaspoons Iaking powder Va teaspoon soda Cream shortening and sugar. Add honey, milk and eggs. Beat : 2 minutes. Add rest bf ingredi ents and beat a minute. Pour into loaf pan lined with heavy waxed paper. Bake an hour in moderate slow oven (325). In crease heat to 340 degrees and ;bake 10 minutes. HONEY FRUIT BOLLS ' - Biscuit dough (2 cups flour) 3 tablespoons soft butter ,4 tablespoons honey 1 teaspoon cinnamon - teaspoon nutmeg Vz cup shredded -almonds a teaspoon grated orange rind , JPat out douch tmtil about Inch thick. Spread with rest of Ingredients combined. Roll ud like jelly roll and cut off M inch slices. Flatten- them down on greased baking sheet or nan and bake 15 minutes in moderate oven. . Add water, salt, pep per, i celery and onions. Cover tightly and simmer l1, hours, Stir frequently. Add carrots and cook 30 minutes. Mix together 2 tablespoons each of fat and flour. Add Vi cup cold water and stir into the cooking stew. Add rest tf ingredients. Simmer 5 min utes. Add the dumplings. DUMPLINGS 2 Cups flour - 3 teaspoons baking powder teaspoon sait 1 teaspoon chopped parsley 1 egg, beaten (or 2 yolks) cup milk J:, w Mix ingredients and drop from tablespoon, dipped in cold water' to prevent sticking, on top the stew. Cover tightly and simmer 15 minutes. Do not peek during -this time or the dumplings might .fall Carefully remove to a deep serving dish, keeping the dump lings on the top. If possible drip the dumpling ; batter on top of -some of the meat or vegetables in the pan to keep it from getting down into the stew mixture. ' CABBAGE RELISH SALAD 2 cups chopped cabbage ' Vi cup chopped dill pickles 4 green olives, chopped teaspoon salt , -is teaspoon pepper i cup salad dressing 2 tablespoons . sweet or sour x cream. ? - i-'.x Chill ingredients.
