Belated stock market attention
was given the big Axis rout in
Egypt Friday and leading issues,
notably those that might benefit
from a quicker than expected
peace, rose fractions to 2 or more
points, many to peaks for a year
or longer.
The Associated Press average
of 60 stocks was up .4 of a point
at 40.9, a new top since November
5, last year. Transfers of 856,830
shares compared with 598.360
Thursday, and were the best since
October 13.
t International Telephone,, an
"outstanding stock in the peace
category, was the liveliest mover
of the proceedings, advancing
of a point to 5, best mark for
the year to date. Others in the
new high division included Gen
eral Motors, up 1 at 42; Ameri
can Locomotive preferred, up
7 at 91; Johns-Man ville, up 2V
at 65. and Sears Roebuck, up
at 59.

traded, 491 were up, 164 down
and 191 unchanged.
Wool in Boston
The Boston wool market was quiet
today in foreign and half blood wools.
Sale of wool suitable for army blan
kets were made of both spot foreign
and domestic at firm prices. Alloca
tions have been made on - contracts
for 1 .570.000 blankets and 2.860.000 bid
on awards have been made on : bids
based on Wool contents of 50 per cent

quotations for a month while rye
was up more than a cent.
Improved flour demand, large
shipping business in cash corn and
purchase by Ireland of 400,000 bu
shels of No. 2 yellow US corn were
bullish factors. Ireland was be
lieved in the market for an addi
tional 200,000 bushels.
Although late profit taking
whittled down the gains, wheat
closed cent higher than
