Have Meetings
AURORA The Woman's club
met Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. John Kraus assist
ing hostess. Mrs R. R. Mandiville
and Mrs. B. W.: Stoner reported
on the county federation.
The guest speaker was Dr. Ber
nard Noble of Reed college His
subject was the war, and its effect
on the nation. He was accompan
ied by Mrs. Noble. The next club
meeting will be the Thanksgiving
program November 18 at the home
of Mrs. P. S. Will.

MEHAMA Mr. and Mrs. Merle
Philippi, Orval Greer and Chris
McDonald have returned from a
ten days hunting trip with two
deer but no elk. The party re
turned late Tuesday. Several
inches of snow was oh the ground
where they camped above San
tiam pass, snow was encountered,
making travel very slow.
Wilson Stevens and a party also
hunted elk in eastern Oregon
about the same time.

birthday Sunday when 35 rela
tives and friends gathered at the
J. ' N. Wall home. '
Mrs. Henry Hildebrand was in
Salem ; last Friday.
Mrs. Isaac Brandt has been seri
ously ill the last two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Fast
were special guests of Rev. and
Mrs. John P. Neufeldt of Smith
field Monday when they attended
the Salem Deaconess hospital's
annual meeting and banquet held
in the hospital's dining room. Rev.
Neufeldt is the chairman of the
hospital board.
Teacher-Pupil Meet
SMITHFIELD Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Smith of North Dallas visited
Mrs. Zula Simpson last Sunday.
Mrs. Smith, when a child, attend
ed school taught by Mrs. Simpson
and this was the first visit they
had had since those school days.

Four Hunters
Take Two Elk
FOX VALLEY Albert Julian
and Wilson Stevens returned
Tuesday from a hunting trip in
eastern Oregon. There were two
other men with them and the
party; brought, home two elk and
a deer. They reported a fine
trip. !
Only a hundred votes were cast
Tuesday. Not very much interest
was evidenced in the election this
year. ;

woods, is staying at the home of
his aunt and uncle, Mr. -and Mrs.
John Neal and working for the
Linn Lumber company.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Vaughn,
Portland, were Fox Valley visit
ors Tuesday. Vaughn is employed
at the Swan Island ship yards. -
