Bombs Missing

During hearings on the second
supplemental national .defense
bill, Hohnan interrupted witnesses
to. testify, that civilian ; patrol
:' planes spotted a submarine head
mg for a tanker off Brownsville,

The patrol plane, which carried
a nephew of Holman's, radioed the
' location of the submarine, the sen
' ater said, but his nephew and the
f other flyer told him that the six
bombers at. the station did not
attack because they had no bombs.

On Hunting Trip
PRATUM Mr. Clyde Rodgers
and son Claud returned Saturday
from a hunting trip to the moun
tains of eastern Oregon. Three
deer were the catch of the party.
Mrs. Helen Harding, who is em
ployed in;. Portland, spent .the
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Arch' Bowen, and
daughters Betty and Merlene. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Claud Trent and
son David spent Sunday in Cor
vallis visiting Mrs. Robert Kel
logg (Dorothy Arstill) and Miss
Thelma Arstill, daughters of Mrs.
Trent Mrs. Kellogg is employed
at the Co-op Book store on the
campus, while her' husband is
stationed at Camp Roberts in Cal
ifornia. Thelma Arstill Is attend
ing Oregon State college this year,
and employed part time at the
Camp Adair offices in Corvallis. !

navy assured the battleship Ore
gon commission Monday: that the
erstwhile bulldog of the fleet
will not be scrapped until the
state has . had time to remove
whatever" items- from the ship
which it sees fit to retain for
historical or other reasons. V;
This advice came in a letter
from Rear Adm.: W. ' J. Carter)
assistant paymaster general of the
navy.
The ship has been a museum
here for many years. .
