Grain Prices
Rally; Rye
Up 4 Gents,
CHICAGO, Sept. 9-(P)-Grain
prices staged another sharp ad
vance Wednesday ' as the market
continued its adjustment to i price
control and stabilization plans.
Rye led the advance with gains
f about 4" cents ' while wheat
gained 2 cents. Wheat and rye
were highest since June and oats
at best figures since May. En
larged flour demand helped to
strengthen wheat , while rye re
flected buying based; on the fact
that it is at the sharpest discount
below parity of any cereal.
, Closing prices were at or near
. the day's highs in all pits. Wheat
finished " -2 " cents higher than
. Tuesday, September $1.24, Decern
; ber $1.27-,. -
Grain men said the reason for
t cereal "price' strength in the face
. of farm price control was1 based
primarily on the fact that all
grains are well below parity. They
had anticipated ; the, president
. might call for freezing" of prices
. but instead his speech was inter
7 preted ; as an' indication 'that the
. administration 'hopes to check
, price rises at around parity. This
, ... was coupled with talk that a move
. might be made to place a floor un
t -ler , prices - designed to stabilize
' them around parity. This, traders
said, would be bullish with grains
t around present levels. . X
