Wheat's Rise

CHICAGO, Sept l-(ff)"Mill
buying, reports of unfavorable
harvesting weather in the north
west and the absence of hedging
pressure spurred an advance of
more tha a cent in wheat futures
Tuesday
With September; and December
wheat contracts going to new six
weeks' highs, all other grains fol-
owed the upturn. Although most
of the advance was scored early,
and ran into some profit taking
after the first half-hour, the mar
kef maintained a firm undertone
through to the close. ; " " .
At the finish wheat was 1 to V
cent higher, i September $1.20-
, December $123-$1.24.
A major factor in the wheat up
turn was the strength at Minne
apolis, that market leading the ad
vance for the second consecutive
day. The Minneapolis j strength
seemed to be based upon reports
harvesting and movement of the
northwest crop had slowed in the

Convert Wheat
Into Produce
Of Many Kinds
; " Twenty five carloads of wheat
: have been ' converted into meat,
. milk, eggs, wool and other war
materials by Marion county's war
lime "farm factory" in the past
"six months, W. M- Tate chairman
cf the county AAA committee, e
. ported yesterday. V
That's the amount of wheat de
livered to county farmers under
, the program to release wheat
' from the ever-normal granary for
feeding to livestock and poultry,
the chairman said. Orders ; lor
feed wheat continue to pour Into
.the county AAA office, indicating
that an even greater volume of
wheat will be fed during the com
; ing winter months. - -
: . While the figures do not reflect
the a mount of locally-raised
Wheat that has been fed, Tate be
lieves .that they do show that
stockmen and poultrymen are
feeding heavier to increase the
output ' of war-needed products,
and also that less wheat is being
grown in the county, as growers
switch' to production of more
needed crops.
Feed wheat is available locally
at 94.5 cents a bushel at trackside,
anywhere in the county. This
price is based on recent action of
congress to set aside 125,000,000
bushels' of wheat for sale as feed
at 85 per cent of corn parity price.
"With feed wheat available at
this price, many county farmers
are finding that they cannot af
ford to grow wheat on land cap
able of growing winter legume
$eed crops," flax and other war
crops," Tate said. v ' ?
Fanners may order the wheat
in carload lots,' or may pool orders-
through the county office. r
; Dealers - also may obtain feed
wheat for resale whole, cracked or
in mixed feeds. Only requirement
is that it must be used for feed.
