Soldiers to Attend Parties 1 .Two informal dancing parties will ; honor the servicemen ' sta-" tloned in and near Salem and the men stationed at Camp Adair next week. - , Scheduled lor Wednesday night Is a dance at the fairgrounds for the men . stationed there. CoL John F. Goodman's orchestra will play for the dancing, Lieut. W, J." Baumgarten, recreation of ficer at the fairgrounds, and Bob Boardman, USO director, are in charge of the arrangements for the dance and Senior Hostell league members will act as host esses. C Junior Hostess league . members will be invited as danc ing, partners for the soldiers., Servicemen stationed at the fairgrounds and the airport and a kroup of men from Camp Adair will be invited - to the weeklv uso dance, which wiu be given ;' in the American Legion home Friday evening with members, of the Hostess league. executive committee and Senior ' Hostess league members as official host esses. A group of Junior Hostess league members will be' invited to act as assistant hostesses. Lectures planned . Scheduled as the opening lec ture in a series of weekly lec tures to be given for - Junior Hostell league members In the Floral room of the chamber of commerce is the talk on "What Part : Do We 'Junior Hostesses Play in the War Situation?" by Byron Conley, coordinator of the Marion county defense council Tuesday night at 8 o'clock. Miss Hachael Yocom, area de- ' f ense , supervisor for the WPA recreation set-up, will introduce the speaker. Mr. Conley will explain the. civilian defense set-up and the functions of the organization, ; enumerating " on its activities, which include not only taking care of the defense set-up itself but also acting as a central,' bu reau for very federal - war agency in Marion county includ- ' ing recreation and USO activi ties. The defense council recom- - mends the personnel for the vari-- '- ous committees to the federal government and in the near fu ture plans to function as a public information center for all war activities. ( ' After explaining the physical get-up of the council, its activi ties and its relation to the USO program,, Mr. Conley will go into detail on the part that Junior Hostess v league members may play in "maintaining soldier morale. , ;,: .' . , The lecture series has been arranged by Miss Marion Mitch ell and Miss Elda Ridgeway, members of the Young Business Women's group at the YVVCA. Kuppers Hosts At Dinner ? Mr." and Mrs. LeRoy Kuper were hosts at a' dinner party at their new home on Bieber street Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Ku per celebrated their first wed ding anniversary. After the dinner hour the eve ning was spent informally. Guests bidden were Mr. and Mrs. Byron McElhaney and Wal ter, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfiarrt Over gard and hostesses Mr, and Mrs. LeRoy Kuper. Mrs. Amos Jahn left by train Saturday ' morning for Long Beach to establish her home near Mr. Jahn . who is stationed with the coast guard at Terminal is land. Mrs. Jahn has spent some time in Seattle,, where the cou ple lived lor the past year, dis posing of household goods. Since then she has been a guest at the home of her - parents, ' Mr. and Mrs. Phil Barrett. ; , . ' . Mrs. Wolcott E. Many families are inviting soldier guests to dinner, making arrangements through the home hospitality committee of the Hostess league. Miss Naoma Black entertained six soldiers with a swim and din ner on Saturday night Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Bunnell will be hosts to four soldier guests at dinner today and Miss Vivian Fryer has invited two soldiers to have Sunday dinner at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller' Fryer In Wood burn. The latter soldiers will also have a trip to Silver Creek falls. - Guests Here For Picnic Dance A number of guests from out of town came to attend the Sub scription club's annual picnic dance Friday at Hazel Green. The Palmer McDonalds of Portland are here for the week end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Kirk and Mrs. Velma Farmer. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle , Palmer are here with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Huggins. Mrs. H. G. Maison now of Springfield is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Kerl Bece for the weekend and was their guest at the dance. Women to Meet At Osterman's The Women's Missionary so ciety, of the First Evangelical church will meet at the home of Mrs. Ivan Osterman, route seven, box 92K, Tuesday, Au gust 18, for their annual picnic and regular "monthly meeting. Potluck dinner at the noon hour. Cars leave the church at 10:30. Mrs. W. A. Guef froy and Mrs. Martha Lottes, delegates to the branch convention, will give their reports. All members and friends are invited to attend. Visitor Feted This Week Mrs. Stanley Krueger and Mrs. C. F. The people of Monmouth were the hosts. The long serving table was centered with a colorful bowl of fruit and summer vegetables.
