Otto returned here from Portland Tuesday where they were called by the illness of their brother-in-law, Chester N. Huntington. He died at the vet erans' hospital Sunday and fune ral services were held in Port land Tuesday. Mrs. Huntington is known here where she visited her sister, Mrs Otto, frequently during the past four years. Mr. and Mrs. Otto moved to their home at Pleasant Hill on MILL CITY Robert Quinn, who was born in Thamesford, On tario, Canada, September 2, 1851, died at Mill City July 23. SALEM HEIGHTS The air raid district under Myron Butler is to have' a covered dish supper at the home of Eric Butler on Hulsey road Saturday at 7 o'clock. It is sponsored by the.Friendly Neighbor Garden club. They will furnish the coffee and cream, but all are requested to bripg their own sugar. C A. " ' Paper - Leased In Jefferson v" JEFFERSON L. I Shields, editor and publisher of the Jeffer son Review for the past ten year, has leased the newspaper to Spen cer firovold of.Stayton who will take over the publication. August 1. Mr. Shields has been taking a course in -welding in a government school in Salem for the past few weeks and -will start to work In a shipyard in Portland next week. Mrs. Shields will remain in their home here until fall, or until such time as it is possible to find living quarters in Portland. They will retain their property here and Jefferson as their permanent ad dress. Br ovoid, who is married and has three children, is employed at the Stayton Mail office. He will con tinue to live in Stayton for the present, where he will work part time at the Mail office. He has published weekly newspapers in the midwest before coming to Oregon. Pastor to Attend Church Assembly JEFFERSON Rev. and Mrs. William Elmer will attend the summer assembly of the Evangel ical church of the Oregon-Washington conference at Jennings Lodge, August 3 to 12. The an nual conference will open on the camp ground on the afternoon of the 12th and continue through Sunday, August 16. Rev. G. R. Stover and a group of Gideons from Salem will be in charge of the services Sunday morning at the Evangelical church at 11 o'clock, following Ed Tuck, father of Mrs. Fred Burger, moved to town Thursday. He will make his home with Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Lepley, 1144 Cen ter street Kenneth Gardner, 11 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Gard ner on Crawford avenue, is re covering from an accident of i week ago when he severely cut his right knee while playing. He ran through a neighbor's yard, falling on a garden cultivator. He had some of the stitches re moved Thursday but his leg is still in a cast. He had Ihe same type of accident last summer, only it was his left knee then. PEDEE Annual picnic of the WMS was held at the home of Mrs. H. V. Vickers on July 21. A chicken dinner was served by the hostess. Mrs. Allen Backer gave the reading lesson and Mrs. Eva Burbank the devotional ser vice. It was voted to send Mrs. Annie Arnold and Mrs. Vickers as delegates to the state conven tion.
