Classes Open
Silverton Instruction
To Be on 24 Hour
Basis in Future
SILVERTON Welding classes
have opened on a 24-hour basis at
the Allen Brothers garage In Sil
verton. Full scale classes began
Monday morning with-12 women
enrolled for the morning shift.
with John Lehr as instructor. Hal-
vor Brokke, ' Marion Green ' and
Alfred Johnson are caring for the
other six-hour classes. The group
reports that there is still room
for a few additional students.
; Twelve men have just complet
ed the course and are now employ"
ed at $1.20 an hour at the ship
yards. These, include S. J. Nelson,

Union Friday night was good.

Commercial Pilot
Aim of R. Scroggin
LEBANON Ralph Scroggin
has gone to the new training
field near Madras for training
which will qualify him for
commercial pilot's license. He has
had his private license for some
years and has been, active in . the
organization of .the civilian air
patrol which has completed all of
the basic training required.
Scroggin has leased his bowling
alley to Mr. and Mrs. John Winn.
Uncle: Dies in Dakota
SILVERTON R. B. Bentson
has received word of the death
of his 'uncle, Carl Erickson, at
Garretson, SD. Mr. Erickson was
a brother of the late Olivia Bent
son ' and had many relatives ' and
friends at Silverton. -
Mrs. Mulkey Buys Home
MONMOUTH-rMr. and Mrs.
Myrle Mulkey, whose farm was
absorbed by the cantonment, have
bought a farm of about 200 acres
in Benton county near Pioneer.
They are engaged in producing
beef cattle.

Buck is recovering from an auto
mobile . accident of a year ago,
which broke both legs and she

land hospital. She is well known
throughout the state as former
state president of the WCTU.

Hutchens has returned to his Carl
ton home. Charles Stephenson ar
rived Friday from four months
in Santa Ana, Calif , and is visit
ing his grandmother for several
days before going to his home at
