Party Planned For Soldiers Miss Rachel Yocom, area su pervisor of defense recreation, announces that arrangements have been made for a party for service men to be held at the airport Wednesday at 7:30. About 30 Junior Hostesses will attend the affair. Music for , dancing will be furnished by the juke box. This is the first of a series of weekly dances to be given for the service men at the air port under the auspices of the Salem Art and Recreation cen ter. Mrs. Lowell Kern,- chairman of the Senior Hostess .league, has assisted Miss Yocom in the scheduling of these parties. Praf. and Mrs. J. Girls Like ; Outdoor- Life . ; : In spite of the downpour of rain, YWCA campers at Smith Creek last week hadV a grand time hiking, fishing, folk danc ing and playing games. The group of campers piled out of the bus Monday morning, ready for a big week and so they be gan by filling in their straw ticks, getting cabins in shape ' and had a . quick plunge in the pool ' - " ' ''; - ' ' - - To start camp activities, a ' Junior council was elected, with a representative from each cabin ' Including Phyllis " Nelson, . Highlights were an all-day hike through Silver Creek park, where time was taken to study the plant life and to collect cones and seeds for inventions in the craft shop. Regardless of the heavy showers, the girls came back ready for a good, supper and a big night around the camp fire, at members of the group displayed dramatic ability. They heard true experiences of Syria from . the nurse, Wilma Stevens. July birthdays were honored at a "birthday dinner" on Thurs day, with displays of art in pro grams. Place-cards came from the craft shop and musical num bers from the musical talent in camp. Imaginations ran wild in the costumes worn in honor of their guests, Forest Ranger Har ry Buckley and his family. The high spot of the week was the party with the Silver Creek campers of the YMCA camp. They came, upon invitation, to participate in a scavenger hunt . and a big bonfire where the treasure .was disclosed. Plans were made by representatives from both camps. Girls who have registered for the second week of camp will leave at 9 o'clock Monday morn ing from the YWCA. She visited with the Busicks and with her grand mother, Mrs. Randa McDonald. Miss Baker resided in Guata xnala for two years. She recently resigned her teaching position there to take a defense Job in San Francisco. Larson Vows Will Be This afternoon Miss Helyn Larson will become Mrs. Lloyd Jones, at a ceremony in the Christian church of Vancouver, Washington. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Larson, and the groom is the son. of Mrs. Colclazier of Salem. f The bride will be dressed in a rust colored dress worn with yellow accessories and a brown covert cloth topcoat with match' ing shoes and gloves. She will wear a yellow orchid. Attending her will be her sis ter, Mrs. R. J. Volchok and as best man will be Mr. Harry Obermann. The maid of honor and the mothers will wear gar denia corsages. The wedding guests will be entertained at a dinner1 follow ing the ceremony, and later the newly married couple will go on a short wedding trip. Bridge Club at McAdams' Misses Phebe and Ruth Mc Adams were' .hostesses Friday night for the Salem Business and Professional Women's Bridge club. Special guest was Mrs. W. M. Thome, jr,- introduced by Mrs. Maude Eckrnan. Four tables of bridge were in play during the9 evening. Miss Marguerite Shelley, recording secretary of the club, took hon ors with the high score. Second high was Mrs. Helen Beelar. The refreshment table was covered with a lace cloth. The centerpiece was a mixed bou quet in pastel colored flowers, emphasized by tall pink tapers. The bridge club is the result of the work of last year's health and recreation committee head ed by Miss Betty Elofson. Found ed shortly after the Sam Gordon bridge series sponsored by the Salem B and PW, the group has enjoyed steadily increasing at tendance. Meetings this year will be called by Miss Hazel Roe nicke, recently appointed chair man of health and recreation. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Murphy are entertaining members of their family for a few days.
