are keeping everyone -busy. -
With littte prospect of help" in

the farmer to pay the high prices
paid by industries, the farmers are
planning to do most of their work
themselves. ,
Many more combines have been
purchased this year. Among the
new owners are Henry Roth,' John
.Tweed, Walter Haverson, Ernest
Both, George Stevens.

WOODBURN The need for
" cherry and cane berries pickers is
ery great in the.Woodburn vl
inity, according to orders placed
at the" employment office here, at
least 200 berry - pickers will "be
needed by the end of the week
and a third of them are needed
now. Cherries are ready to be
picked arid at least 175 pickers will
fee required.

met at the McMinnville city park for their annual picnic Sunday.
A"pleasant afternoon was spent in renewing old friendships after

Dayton was elected president for
the coming year; Mrs. Earl Bear of
Turner, secretary-treasurer.
A gift of fruit and flowers is
given each year by this group to
Lizzy Cornelius, a former Turner
teacher, who is confined to a Port
land hospital. It is delivered in
person by a Portland member of
the group. They have also estab
lished the practice of giving a gift
to the outstanding Turner eighth
grade graduate at commencement.
Miss Muriel Saulsbury, the only
resident member of the first four
year graduationlass (1915) pre
sented the award to Miss Betty
Bouchie at the exercises this year.

Mrs. Dell Robertson Heath, who

Buys New Farm

On Fishing Trip

a fishing trip. They were mired In
the mud until rescued by another
