" u Scdenv Oregon, Thursday A iMplilBBS The well worn baseball phrase" All field no hit" can certainly be tagged to Salem's Frankie Dierickx, and how! Since Frankie's return to the club he hasn't had much trouble turning in three wins, losing a tough one in ten innings, but with the willow Frankie is strictly a "leather" player. He's been at bat 13 times so far and has yetto get his first hit. All 15 turns came right here in Salem, and only once did Frankie smack one which might have been a hit, that a long liner to left two weeks ago which Spokane's Tiny Hansen hauled down. Outside that one bingle, Frankie's bat has had about as much punch in it as a good stiff drink of water. But when he digs that toe plate into the pitching rubber the horse changes color but fast. Dierickx has given op exactly six earned runs In four ball tames, or 37 innings of work. (His first game went 10 innings against Spokane.) In case you're interested that boils down to IVi earned runs per contest, which, if kept up through a full season, would be no less than astounding. Only one WI pitcher that we remember had any such earned run average, Bill Fleming of Bel lingham having turned in a 1.79 mark in 1938, winning 20 and los ing 10 that year. Incidentally, that same Fleming was the one who pitched the one-hitter against Bos ton for the Chicago. Cubs last week. But getting back to Dierickx, only 24 hits have been made off his offerings, an average of six per game. Should Frankie elect to pur sue a pitching career he would bo doubt make quite a name for himself as he's certainly got the site, the stamina, the stuff and the needed fast one. Add to those assets a correct atti tude and you have an insured future. But baseball will have to do without Frankie, as he's chosen the medical profession as his No. 1 love, and from re ports, he's all set to hang out his shingle after another semes ter at Crelghton V. Got Any Squawks? The 1942 hunting regulations were formulated by the Oregon State Game commission at its hearing over last weekend but final action will not be taken until the meeting is reconvened on June 27. This allows those who have any objections an opportunity to present them to the commission before the formal order is made. The commission set the pheas ant limit the same this year as it was last, two cocks in any one day but not more than four during the entire open season. The sea son itself will be only three days' long, October 17, 18 and 21, in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washing ton, Columbia, Yamhill, Polk, Marion, Benton, Lane and Linn counties. C7 When Strategy Clow Walks Across in Triple, 2 Other Passes VANCOUVER, June 17.-(CP) Vancouver's league leading Capi lanos made it two straight wins over the Salem Senators here Wednesday night, getting the win ning run the easy way, forced across by a walk for a 3 to 2 victory in a Western Interna tional league baseball game. Salem's Kenny Clow and Van couver's Ronnie Bryant were hooked up in a tight mound duel going into the last half of the ninth with the score knotted at 2-all. Bill Wright smashed Van couver's seventh hit off Clow to start the inning, a triple to left. Manager Charlie Petersen ordered the bases filled for a possible force play at the plate, but after walking Hal Sueme and Al Kretchmar to jam the sacks full, Clow unintentionally passed pinch hitter Pete Jonas, batting for Bry ant, and the ball game was over. The Caps took a two-run lead in the first inning and held it until Salem got a single tally in the sixth and other in the top half of the ninth. Both sides played errorless ball and for the second consecutive night Salem outhit the Caps, 9 to 7. Claude O'Connell, playing the outfield in place of Manager Charlie Petersen for Salem, got two of Salem's 19 hits. Jack Warren and Alf Cailteaux each garnering two also. Leading hitters for Vancouver were Ford Mullen with two singles and Wright with his triple and single.
