Mrs. Krueger to Head Auxiliary - The American Legion auxil- iary, Capital unit No. 9 met Monday night in Legion home ;for the last session before vaca- ition. Guests were presented by the hostess, Mrs. Fred Gahlsdorf. Mrs. Clyde Kaiser, child wel fare chairman, reported that the committee had sent clothing to Portland and Roseburg centers. Mrs. James Garson, rehabilita tion chairman and committee, cent 12 flashlights, 3 canes and a box of assorted buttons to the disabled veterans in hospitals. The sewing group will meet on Wednesday, June 17, to sew and make up bandages for the Ame rican Red Cross. Mrs Don Madi son, Mrs. James Garson and Mrs. Stanley Krueger were named as a committee to com plete plans for the 4th of July celebration. This is an annual project of the auxiliary in co operation with Capital post No. 8 Officers were elected for the rmirtf year and include Mrs. Stanley Krueger, president; Mrs. Jane' Garson, first vice-president; Mrs. John Nash, second vice-president; Mrs. I. Mrs. Frank DeWitt will en. - tertain the Sigma Kappa alum nae at her home Thursday night Date Is Set For July Rites Miss Virginia Gamble and Mr. Robert C. Adams have set their wedding day. The young couple will be married on Saturday, July 25 at the Jason Lee Me morial church. The news was told Tuesday night at a party for which Miss Gamble was hostess at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Gamble. Mr. Adams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Adams. The airplane motif was carried out in the decorations and minia ture airplanes with the names, of the couple revealed the news. A late supper was served by the hostess. Bidden to the announcement party were Mrs. Charles Adams, Mrs. James Gunston, Mrs. An drew Hunter, Miss Bernice Weir, Miss Nony Lee, Miss Elizabeth Ferguson, Miss Doris Doughton, Miss Velora Williams, Miss Wan da and Miss Thelma Gamble, Mrs. J. R. Gamble and Miss Virginia Gamble. The bride-to-be and her fi ance are graduates of Salem schools and she is connected with the Portland General Elec tric company. Mr. Adams is with the selective service board. Program Features Flag Day A Flag day program was a fea ture of the Salem Rebekah lc 'ge meeting Monday night. Mrs. Hal lie Ingle, past president of the Rebekah assembly, gave a trib ute to the flag. Hall Ratzeburg played a piano solo, Mrs. Charles Lounsburg gave a reading, vo cal number by Coralbelle Weeks accompanied by Mr. Ratzeburg, and piano numbers by Miss Wil lis, Mr. William Falk and Mr. Ratzeburg. Mrs. Paul Jackson showed moving pictures of Ore gon scenery. A June birthday was held and refreshments were served after the meeting. On June 22 a so cial night will be held with cards in play and on June 29 a patri otic program will be featured. Mrs. Butler Fetes Club Mrs. Eric Butler was hostess to members of the Book-A-Month club Tuesday afternoon. This was the last meeting of the season and a covered dish lunch eon was served. Dance to Honor Tom Riches Miss Patricia Riches, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Riches, will entertain with a formal dancing party Friday night at the West Salem Legion hall in honor of her brother, Mr. Tom Riches. He is leaving for St. Mary's college, Calif., to begin his training in the navy air force. He attended Willamette univer sity and was a member of Alpha Psi Delta fraternity. Twenty-five couples have been invited to the dance which will be followed by a buffet supper at the Riches home in Kmgwood Heights. Patriotic Theme Carried Out at Annual Garden Club Convention A patriotic theme is being carried out in ihe decorations of the fifteenth annual convention of the Oregon Federation of Garden clubs which will close today. The session opened Tuesday morning at the Legion hall with 68 Garden clubs rep resented from throughout the state. Over two hundred dele gates registered and Mrs. Daniel C. Heffner of Portland, state president, presided. . Outstanding event of Tues day's program was the formal dinner at the Marion hotel. The long tables were decorated with bouquets of red and white roses, and white tapers in crystal can delabras. The Men's Garden club decorated the lobby of the hotel with bouquets of blue and white delphinium, red roses, iris and peonies. Mrs. William Everett Ander son of Salem, honorary president of the federation, served ai its first president. She introduced the guests and officers at the dinner. Speakers were Mr. Lynn Cronemiller, assistant state for ester, who talked on "Conserva tion in Oregon" and Mr. Edgar L. Kline, who illustrated his talk, "Lilies in Oregon," with colored slides. Business sessions Tuesday were filled with routine busi ness and the report of the presi dent, Mrs. Heffner. At the noon luncheon Miss Eleanor Stephens, state librarian, discussed "How the Library Can Help the Gar den Club Members and How the Members May Help the Garden Club." She told how members may obtain books from the li brary and the relation of books to garden clubs. At the morning session Mr. R. C. Kuehner, ex ecutive secretary of the Keep Oregon Green association, spoke about the effort to keep Oregon green and the newly organized Green Guard. Garden Tour and Tea After the business sessions in the afternoon the delegates were taken on a tour of the gardens of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lachmund and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith. Miss Elizabeth Lord and Miss Edith Schryver opened their home and gardens for a tea in honor of the visitors. At one end of the table was an old Chinese punch bowl and the centerpiece was of red roses and sweet Wil liam guarded by two smaller bowls of red and white sweet William. Opening event on today's pro gram will be the president's no host breakfast at the Marion ho tel with Mrs. Daniel Heffner presiding. All Garden club presi dents, district vice presidents and federation committee chair men are invited to attend. Election and installation of of ficers will take place this morn ing and luncheon will be served at the Legion hall at noon. At 1:30 o'clock slides on wild flow ers of Oregon will be shown by Mrs. A. The 8 o'clock cere mony was performed by Rev. N. Christian Ernston. The bride wore a rose lace gown with silver trim and car ried a colonial bouquet of yel low rosebuds. Miss Betty Staab was the honor attendant and wore a green net frock. Her flowers were Cecile Brunner roses. Mr. Maxwell Stayton of Stayton was best man. A reception followed the wed ding and Mrs. Katherine Davis presided at the urn. Serving were Mrs. Herbert Staab, Mrs. Faye Rice, Mrs. Ralph Cart wright and Mrs. Jack Raab. HAZEL GREEN Mrs. Ralph Worden, president, and Mrs. Andrew Zaharas were the dele gates from the garden club to the State Federation of Garden Clubs convention in Salem. Girls Receive Awards The Okiciyapi Camp Fire Girls of Richmond school have been active this year in giving service to the American Red Cross and making Easier favors and writ ing pads for the soldier boys. For the Red Cross they helped with the March of Dimes, TB stamp sale and distributing posters. They also helped to fill out the sugar rationing blanks. The girls who have earned the ten hour Camp Fire service award were Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Donna Seay, Betty Wie ser, Gloridean McDowell, Patri cia Boyer and Virginia Bowers. Mrs. Vida Bowers is their guar dian. Bruce Patterson Has Birthday Bruce Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Deane Patterson, celebrated his fourth birthday Tuesday afternoon.
